The first D.A.D.A Lesson. « Thread Started on Apr 27, 2008, 2:30am »
Severus glanced up at the clock.a few minutes remained before the lesson began. He had already made sure that the students would get the full view of the range of afflictions the Dark Arts could cause. On the west wall, were three slightly larger picture, for the room was adorned with them, and they depicted the three most hard-hitting images of the Arts in motion, and ond ones that he had come across countless times. Sometimes he had been the one doling them out. In order to avoid too much vomit on the flagstones HE had made sure to dim the room, curtains were drawn across windows and candles were strategically placed to allow some of the more grisly injuries to fade into the shadows. Only to leap out again once the eyes adjusted to the darkness. But that was what he was here to do, Adjust students to the dark. He heard a small commotion outside the heavy door. Quickly glancing at his notes on this particular class, Severus ascertained how many candles would need lighting. Almost all of them seeing as this was a sixth year class, they should be able to withstand the gore well enough, but he would not risk giving anyone a panic attack. They could look at the pictures freely if they chose. He glanced back at the class record. Potter, Granger, Weasley. Well, wasn't today going to be filled with joy. He spat on the floor, angry that he would have to deal with them. ANd then he groaned inwardly. Longbottom. Cruel as it was, he hoped the boy would sharpen up on seeing the picture of the witch under the Cruciatus Curse. However, he didn't want any tears so he flicked his wand quickly, swapping its place with that of the picture of wizard who had suffered the Kiss.

Harry was more than dis - pleased when he found who the new professor were , but although he would never admit it he was slightly relived or it would have meant not studying potions and not becoming a Auror. He still hared it when the Slytherins laughed at him walking up the corridors, although he did start to get used to it , it was still slightly embarrassing.
He over heard Malfoys comment , but expected that he was supposed to. Last year he would have probably lost his temper, but he was much calmer now. He guessed Ron wouldn't react to well to it, so didn't glance over to him. "Looks like Snapes not here yet" he said to his friends , trying to ignore Malfoys followers.

Hermione was so excited, because it was her first lesson of Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson in that year. She wasn't sure if it was Defense Against the Dark Arts or properly said Dark Arts because Professor Snape was capable of everything. She was in the Gryffindor Tower alone because Harry and Ron left her behind, she had to look in her trunk for the books she needed today: Herbology, Charms, History of Magic, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
She hoped that Professor Snape wasn't like Umbridge, well the had something in common they were bad people at least Professor Snape wasn't a bad teacher like Umbridge was. She put all her books into her magical extended school bag and she stepped away from the Common Room, walking softly on the corridors. She was thinking that Draco Malfoy, that git, was so happy to have his favorite teacher and his house head as defense teacher, Hermione was so furious. At least she had plenty of time to read the book and the strange terms.
Finally she arrived at the door, but no one was there, it was strange because professor Umbridge always told them to wait at the door until she let them pass in, and occupy their place in their desks. Hermione knocked softly at the door and she entered. She saw Harry there, Professor Snape, and Draco Malfoy. She have guessed correctly when she supposed that Draco would be the first to come at this class. She went and she took a seat near Harry. "Hi Harry, how are you doing?" asked Hermione with a low voice.

Alexandrina hurried off to class. She was already late. Class was with the Slytherins and Snape, oh the joy! Harry and Hermione were already there. "Hi, Harry! Hi, Hermione!" she greeted them. "I'm not late, right?"

Hearing more and more students arrive, Severus looked at the clock. it was wound a minute fast so that more students were forced to be punctual. The way he saw it, he was helping them out for later life. When the Dark Lord would probably kill them all. Running a potionstained hand over his face, HE approached the door and opened it. He stepped out into the corridor and made his presence known. this often resulted in a pleasing silence. Looking at the queue with cold eyes, he spoke one word. "Inside." When the rabble had entered, he closed the door and moved to the second desk in the room. this was carefully positioned to cause students to get neck cramp Have to turn to see him. "I have not asked you to take out your books," he looked pointedly at the few who had. "I wish to speak to you and I want your fullest attention.

Alexandrina entered quietly after Harry, Ron, and Hermione. She sat next to Harry. From the corner of her eye, she watched Professor Severus Snape. Not that she would admit it to anyone, but she had a huge crush on him.
She was disappointed that she wasn't a Slytherin. It wasn't that the Gryffindors weren't or anything, but they had Professor McGonagall for Head of House. She would have much rather have had Professor Snape as Head of House, instead.

Lavender was quite late for class. In fact, it was the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class, taught by that grease ball, Snape. Her professor was actually the reason why she was so late. That morning, she was having a dream that she was giving Severus Snape a makeover and he was actually using shampoo! It took a while to get the all the extra oil out of his hair. By the time the makeover was done, Lavender woke up to find her dormitory empty and breakfast over.
She arrived in time to hear Snape say "I wish to speak to you and I want your fullest attention"
Opening the door to the class room, she crept in silently, hoping to enter un-noticed from the strict teacher. Carefully setting her things down, she smiled innocently and pretended to give him her fullest attention, as he wanted.

Hannah Abbott had walked over to the Defense Against the Dark Arts room, as everyone else was in the corridors. She had not said anything, since she was still shocked by who was the Professor of the subject this year - Snape. It was bad enough to have him as the Potion's Professor, but now they had him as the Defense Against the Dark Art's Professor. That was much fully worse. She had always liked the class, but she began to wonder how it would be now with Snape as the Professor.
Hannah let out a soft sigh as she looked over at the door. She watched as Professor Snape opened up the door to the classroom, ordering everyone in to the classroom. She walked in to the classroom, her lips sealed. She had not wanted to say anything at the moment, so she decided to stay quiet. She sat down in a seat, and listened to Snape.

Severus inhaled through his larger than average nostrils and began to speak,"You have had five teachers in this subject so far, I believe. Naturally, these teachers will all have had their own methods and priorities. Given this confusion, I am surprised so many of you scraped an O.W.L. in this subject. I shall be even more surprised if all of you manage to keep up with the N.E.W.T. work, which will be far more advanced. Severus began to stride around the room, passing candles which brightened to show the hideous pictures that shadows had concealed. "The Dark Arts are many, varied, ever-changing and eternal, Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a new head even fiercer and clever than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible." And he should know, having been a paractioner for...what? twenty five years now. He raised his voice slightly for the next part of his speech. "Your defences must therefore be as flexible and as inventive as the Arts you seek to undo. These pictures give a fair representation of what happens to those who suffer, for instance, the Cruciatus Curse," He could almost feel the Longbottom boy's pain. Oops."feel the Dementor's Kiss," Something he passed over marginally quicker, having spent time in Azkaban, he knew that dementors were foul, loathsome creatures,"or provoke the aggression of the Inferius." This had been one of his first sights when greeted by the Dark lord for initiation, Nagini had soon got rid of the mess, but it had been nonetheless a lasting mental scar. He stopped and turned to survey the class, none of which, happily, were asleep. THough it was a small shame as he would have loved to have thrown the chalk that he had concealed in his pocket at them. He paused for effect and questions.
the sig decided it would stretch the screen so back to the drawing board.

Before Professor Snape began speaking, Hannah took out a piece of parchment from her bag along with her Quill and inkwell. As she did that, she knew darn well that this year of Defense Against the Dark Arts was not going to go well. It was not necessarily because Professor Snape was like Umbridge. Umbridge was pure evil. However, Snape was evil too, in his own way. That was made it completely dangerous. After all, it was one thing to be evil. But, to be so evil, that it could be considered completely different was rather annoying.
Hannah pushed a piece of her blond hair out of her eyes. Being a Hufflepuff Prefect, she knew that she should be acting correctly in order to give the younger years a good influence. However, there was only so much evil that one person could take, like what happened last year. She rested her chin in her hand as Professor Snape started talking about his favorite subject. Yet, Professor Snape seemed as mean and evil as ever. Yet, that just seemed like Snape's natural reaction. She always found herself questioning why Dumbledore ever gave Snape a teaching job.
Shaking her head lightly, Hannah looked up at Snape as he began teaching the class. She gave him her undivided attention that he clearly did not deserve. Yet, to keep her grades up, she would need to actually listen in that class. She watched as Snape introduced the pictures behind him. Indeed, Snape seemed rather fond of the pictures, and explaining them to the class. She just sat there when he paused for questions, having nothing to say.

Lazily taking notes, Lavender was listening, but just barely. It was not until later in his speech when she really began to perk up. She realized that this wasn't just black and white print. This was real and the storm was just beginning.
Lavender cringed at the sight of Snape's pictures. The Cruciatous curse, the Dementor's Kiss, and Inferi. It was all just so depressing. She was curious, though. What was it like, experiencing that sort of dark magic? She knew it was just the classroom, but that could happen in the real world, couldn't it? She raised her hand. "So it's true, then? That You-Know-Who's using Inferi?" Lavender asked quietly. It was scary, imagining a dead bodies chasing after you.

He searched the classroom thoroughly with his black eyes until they rested on a Raised hand and beneath it a female student...Brown. 'The Dark Lord has used Inferi in the past,' Severus said in response to the gryffindor that had asked,'which means you would be well-advised to assume he might use them again." Was potter paying attention? He ought to be if he wanted the Dark Lord dead. Properly so. He knew they wouldn't listen for long so a practical approach would be best to asses how far they had acedemically regressed posterior to that bloodyUmbridge woman. "Now... you are, I believe, complete novices in the use of non-verbal spells. What is the advantage of a non-verbal spell?" He hoped that Miss Granger would not be the only person to recognise its advantages or he might as well defect again. Only words, Severus he told himself, he would not betray Lily or the man who had given him an undeserved second chance. Even if the Headmaster had been acting like a House-elf on caffeine recently.
